Dr. Yahagi & the Mended Hearts was formed in April, 2011 when three musicians who enjoy similar type of music got together. They have performed in the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts, The Victoria Fine Arts Center, and can be heard playing in various settings in downtown Victoria most weekends. They have conducted several benefit concerts including a benefit for a heart transplant patient and another for the Tsunami victims in Japan.
The strong support from the community allowed the group to personally deliver a significant donation to the city council of Iwaki, Japan. A third benefit, Autism Benefit Concert 2012, helped raise funds for the extended care of autistic children. With this event, the group received great recognition all over South Texas.
Their new CD is composed entirely of original songs. The inspiration for the songs is based on Dr. Yahagi’s life experiences, with the majority of the songs based on his medical career as a practicing Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon. "Heart Surgeon" and "Lung Cancer", which have been performed live on local television and radio stations, are examples. The group has written a song for our home town, "Victoria Texas", which recently aired on one of Victoria's local radio station KLUB ROCK 106.9FM.
10% of sales from this CD will go to the "Yahagi Heart Foundation" to benefit all who suffer from medical conditions.
Friday January 25th was our Final show.
Dr, Yahagi will be moving out of Victoria Texas to be closer to family.
We thank everyone for your support over the past 8 years. We have had a fantastic time entertaining you.
This Site will no longer be available after June 25th 2019.

"We will continue to write and play our original songs to give support and cheer to those who are suffering from medical conditions. I hope our hearts will touch many lives." — Yusuke Yahagi, M.D.
Rick Collie aka: Stix, comes alive on drums with incredibly exciting solos. Rick's music career began at age 12 when he was given a busted five string guitar. Around the same time he began honing his steady rhythm with drumsticks on an old wooden desk. Not long after, Rick joined his first rock and roll band at the age of 14. In 1972 he took a 30 year break from music to marry his beautiful wife Cay, raise a family, which includes his daughter and 2 grandsons, serve in the Army Medical Service Corps and completing a college degree and graduate courses. Rick has recently become a retiree. Before teaming up with Dr. Yahagi, Rick reconnected with music by playing bass and classical guitar with a co-worker.

Don Tharp gives the group's sound a wonderful depth with a thumping bass guitar and vocals. During the day Don teaches music in the Victoria Independent School District and uses his Doctor of Ministry degree as Minister of Worship for the Church at Spring Creek. His natural ease with the bass was born in a childhood love of music and steady guitar playing ever since. Don says, "Playing bass and singing with the band gives me a great sense of satisfaction." He also serves as the group spokesman providing introductions and background information about their songs. Don also offers private guitar and bass lessons as time allows. Don is married to his wonderful wife Cindy, they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
